In a world where instantly gratifying consumerism runs rampant, it’s hard to slow down enough to create. More on why technology can be the biggest creativity killer later. For now, here are four ways I cultivate creativity in my life, I hope it inspires you to create. The world needs your art, no matter what form it takes.
1. Social scrolling happens. Make your feeds inspire you to take action. Follow people that are embodying the type of artist you wish to be. Study their craft take notes on the small things they do that you can incorporate into your own craft. For me, VShadowGallary, was the first artist I saw posting time lapse videos of her painting. The videos were mesmerizing and made me want to drop what I was doing and create! Her stuff is soooo cool check her out here https://vshadowgallery.com/ or on instagram @vshadowgallery
2. Create space for your creativity, whether that’s just time or an actual space. Creating time was the hard part for me. I watched my canvases collect cob webs in the corner because “I didn’t have time.” Finally, I called myself out on my bullshit and found the things in my life that I was giving time to that I really didn’t enjoy doing. I know there are things we can’t just quit, like cleaning for instance, but you can enjoy an inspirational podcast while you’re folding the laundry. Investigate all your habits and be open to changing whatever does not light you up so that you have time for the things that do. I know space can be hard too, but don’t lock yourself into thinking you need a whole room dedicated to your craft. Get creative, get inspired. There is no right or wrong way, there is only the optimal way for you. And if you do step number one correctly, you’ll likely find someone in a very similar living situation that helps you mold your space into what it needs to be.
3. Get the vibe right with music! Make a playlist for your creative time. I have playlists for all the different types of art I do. Their energy matches the energy I want reflected in the piece. My playlist include traditional songs, but also some of my favorite soundtracks from movies and spiritual drum tracks. This is another opportunity to get creative and inspired.
4. Allow it to s l o w ... y o u ... d o w n... we're always in a hurry. Let your creative practice slow you down. There is no perceived finish line or dead line. Take your time and enjoy every moment of it.
You’re never going to think you’re ready to share it with the world, just do it. Even if your current followers think your art is crazy or laughable. There are people in the world that will treasure it, but they can’t find it if you never take the leap to post it.
With all the love & light,
𝓛

(I found this folder of pictures on my mothers computer and I'm just going down the list. I didn't even realize this would be the picture for this blog until I opened the folder, but it's fitting.)
